I will give three lectures, mentor all the student composers, and work with the Ensemble 28/78 to prepare for the premiere of my piece, Antefenas-Studies.
My Schedule:
Lecture: {from [where} to]: A Musical Self-Introduction
Lecture: Imagining a Space: On Antefenas-Studies (2018)
Lecture Presentation: Implications and Impossibilities in My Creative Research
Abstract: Identifying the connections between music and other artistic and academic disciplines—as well as diverse sociological phenomena—has been a central concern in my compositional process. In this lecture, using my three recent compositions as examples, I will discuss my motivations for such an interdisciplinary approach in the process of composing music. I will consider the role of composers in today’s society and the statement by geographer Oli Mould: “Creativity is, indeed must be, political.”
